You're probably not gonna get your friend a Lamborghini or get your partner a Beach house, but mouth watering South-Indian Non Vegetarian food is never on doubts. Head to Kamatchi Mess or popularly known as Trouser Anna Kadai, Mandaveli, Chennai.
Even people who reside in Mandaveli for a pretty long time don't know where Kamatchi Mess is. Ask where Trouser Anna Kadai is, anybody will take you there. Though they'll point to a hole in a wall, it's a gateway to heaven.
It is run by Rajendran R, whose is native is Vilampatti, Virudhunagar for 40+ years. He moved to Chennai and started this small shop in 1977 to meet the medical expenses of his Children. After struggling for 3years, from 1980, all the promotions for his shop is done by the loyal fans of the taste of his cooking.
He cooks and serves wearing his iconic black trousers where the name is stuck from. All the cooking is done using firewood because he believes it as one if the major reasons for the popular taste and it's cost efficient moreover. The masalas are also authentically homemade.
They serve lunch from 1 pm to 3 pm and dinner from 7:30 pm to 11pm. The menu is regular except for Wednesday and Sunday during when Mutton Biryani is available. The pricing is quite nominal for the taste. It takes approximately Rs. 300 to 400 for two people.
The meals they serve is said to super good. It's served on a plantain leaf. It has a cup of rice, with three gravies of Fish, Prawn and Mutton, and two types of Poriyal a day. This place is known for its delicious Suraputtu aka Shark Scramble, Kola Urundai aka Mutton Meat Balls, and Vanjaram Varuval aka Seer Fish Fry.
Have an open mind about the ambience and hygiene. It's quite simple with a maximum of Twenty seatings.
